FAQ

What does Sound Mind K9 Training do differently than others in the same field? I provide an applied behavior analysis (ABA) approach to dog training. Though I use evidence-based approaches to behavioral training, I will tailor different modifications that best fit your dog and I will train to your dog’s pace. Your dog will be encouraged to do new things that may be out of their comfort range, but never forced in such way that will cause lack of confidence. More importantly, I love to spend the time to teach the owners the basic behavioral concepts, how to work and encourage their dog, and continue to touch base with them on their maintenance of their dog’s training.

Do you require vaccinations? Yes! We require updated rabies, bordetella, and DHPP (or related variant). Proof of vaccinations before drop off date is required. We also accept titers results. Contact your vet for more information.

What is your training methodology? I am a balanced dog trainer, which means I use reward-based techniques and aversive consequences only when necessary. In other words, I condition dogs positively to new commands, settings, or environments and give correctional guidance to remind the dog on the wanted desired behavior. This type of training gives well-rounded communication on what you desire from your dog.  The equipment used during training is customized to your dog and their learning patterns. Examples of equipment is slip leads, martingales, halters, prong collars, e-collars, vibration collar, etc.
