FAQ: Welcome

The Help Center

What is your training methodology?

I am a balanced dog trainer, which means I use reward-based techniques and aversive consequences only when necessary. In other words, I condition dogs positively to new commands, settings, or environments and give correctional guidance to remind the dog on the wanted desired behavior. This type of training gives well-rounded communication on what you desire from your dog.

What does Sound Mind K9 Training do differently than others in your field?

I provide an applied behavior analysis (ABA) approach to dog training. Though I use evidence-based approaches to behavioral training, I will tailor different modifications that best fit your dog and I will train to your dog’s pace. Your dog will be encouraged to do new things that may be out of their comfort range, but never forced in such way that will cause lack of confidence. More importantly, I love to spend the time to teach the owners the basic behavioral concepts, how to work and encourage their dog, and continue to touch base with them on their maintenance of their dog’s training.

How old does a puppy need to be?

We require puppies to be at least 6 month of age before starting our training program. In our program, pups need a longer attention span for all the material we teach.

What is the $400 non-refundable deposit for?

This deposit, which goes towards the entire training package, secures your spot for training, and pre orders your dog's training equipment. In the event that you need to cancel, this deposit is non-refundable.

What forms of payments do you accept?

  • I accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.

  • Electronic forms of payments accepted are Paypal, CashApp, or Venmo.

  • Checks are not accepted

** transaction fees apply

What do I need to bring for my dog?

  • Proof of shots (Must be sent before drop off)

  • Intake forms (if they have not been emailed back to me)

  • Dog food that will last for your dog's entire stay with us.

  • Any medications that your dog needs

  • Leash and ID collar

  • Brushes, toys, bowls, or beds are completely optional to bring.

What training equipment do you use?

The deposit covers your pup's prong collar, e-collar (NOT a shock collar), and a 15 foot long line.
During drop off I go into detail on how the equipment is used and humane, properly conditioned to your pup, and let the owner's test it on themselves.

Can I visit my dog during training?

ABSOLUTELY! I do require a 24-hour notice of when you would like to visit so I can rearrange my schedule to your needs. Do not hesitate to visit your pup if you feel the need to do so! They miss you too!

Where are you located?

I have a Weatherford, TX address but live in a little town called Cool (cool, right?!). In order to have my complete address you will need to make an appointment. The facility is on my personal property and the address is not public information at this time.
